Pooles Mill Covered Bridge - Cumming, GA

  • Oct. 22nd, 2008 at 12:21 PM

This is covered bridge #3 of 16 that I have made the trek to.  But unlike the previous two I have visited, this is one that you cannot drive through.  Located in the north Georgia mountains, there is a park next to this bridge that crosses over Settendown Creek.

A bridge was originally built here in the 1820s by the Cherokee and after they were forced to leave, the bridge changed ownership hands several times before it was destroyed by a flood.  The present structure was built in 1901 and after much restoration, still exists today.
